A difference of contracts
Posted on: May 23rd, 2008 by Jean AdamsWith a variety of aggregating websites to choose from, finding the best price for a car rental has never been easier. Unfortunately, the difference between companies can come down to less easily discernable factors, such as what is contained in the small print of the car rental contract. The terms of a contract vary widely from company to company, and it is always a good decision to take the time and read yours over carefully before signing.
Most contracts with Alamo, for example, state: “The renter or authorized driver is responsible for any loss or damage to the rental vehicle, regardless of who is at fault.”
An important element of any contract to check is the excess amount. The excess is the amount that the client must pay out of any insurance claim before the insurance company will begin paying. Many car hire companies require the renter to pay the excess fee, which can be thousands of pounds.
A regular quote from Argus Car Rentals, for example, includes theft insurance but that insurance has an excess fee of €1,086.96. The company’s quoted fees also include collision damage cover but leaves the consumer to pay the excess of €919.73 in the event that the car is lost or damaged.
What you may not know when renting a Hertz vehicle is that anyone who gets a parking fine while renting a Hertz car will be charged an administration fee of €20.
When booking in advance, take advantage of the internet to read the fine print of a company’s terms and conditions.
