Air Canada introduces new USA-Canada routes
Posted on: January 28th, 2008 by Martin FellowesAir Canada has introduced several new trans-border routes, thus increasing its already expansive list of destinations in the United States. The flag carrier will offer four new routes to major American airports starting in May 2008. These will include flights from Ottawa’s MacDonald-Cartier Airport to Washington—Reagan National, as well as direct flights from Toronto-Pearson to Austin (Texas), Toronto to Richmond and a Calgary to Chicago route. Once the new routes become operational later this spring, Air Canada will be able to boast that it launches an impressive 440 flights each day to or from destinations in the US. The number of trans-border routes now stands at 92 and these are spread across 55 American cities. Air Canada operates flights to the US from a total of seven major Canadian airports.
Daniel Shurz, Air Canada’s vice-president in charge of the carrier’s network planning, observed that once these new routes become operational, AC’s trans-border network will be the most extensive of any carrier. Shurz noted that AC is committed to offering passengers not only a greater number of routes, but also better value for their money. Convenience also appears to be a key factor and AC is trying to lure passengers by giving them the greatest choice when it comes to which Canadian city they would like to fly to, or from. With the extra routes there will be less need for transfers and long waits at airports and businesspeople in major US cities, like Chicago, will likely find it useful to have direct access to booming regions, like Alberta, which is known for its dynamic oil industry.
