Air France-KLM: Passenger Traffic Up In April
Posted on: May 10th, 2008 by Hannah WestfieldAir France-KLM has announced passenger traffic was up 2.6 percent in April. However, load factor fell by 2.3 percent at 80 percent, while capacity was up by 5.4 percent. Meanwhile, cargo witnessed a spike of 3.5 percent.
The group said that it flew 6.4 million passengers in the same month with April being the first month in the carrier’s summer program. According to a statement by the airline, strong unit revenues tied to a combination of business and leisure travel was able to offset some of the modest increase in activity.
In the Americas, traffic increased a little by just one percent and capacity was higher by 6.2 percent, while the load factor dropped by 4.3 percent points at 82.6 percent. The figures clearly reveal volumes decreasing in terms of leisure travel.
However, the airline said that its Asian segment was still ‘dynamic.’ Looking at Air France-KLM’s Asian performance, traffic was up 7.9 percent and capacity was higher by 6.8 percent. Meanwhile, the load factor was up about a percent at 87.6 percent.
In addition, in the Africa and Middle East segment, traffic was higher by 3.5 percent, which is consistent with the increase in capacity of 3.6 percent, while the load factor dropped by a tenth of a percent to 79.6 percent.
Concurrently, the airline’s Caribbean and Indian Ocean division witnessed a drop of 1.2 percent in traffic, while capacity was higher by about 6 percent. The figures led to a decline of 5.6 percent in terms of the load factor to 79 percent.
