Leading airline review website AirlineRatings has labelled Air New Zealand the planet’s top airline for the third consecutive year. The annual survey rates more than 200 of the world’s carriers on all aspects of their operations and passenger comfort.
The experienced editorial team at AirlineRatings.com operate to exacting criteria when making their assessments. They take into account the passenger experience in all travel classes from economy to first. As well as comfort and safety, airlines are assessed on their in-cabin innovations and facilities plus value for money.
The website cited Air New Zealand’s exemplary record of safe operations, how it inspires staff and its attention to environmental issues as contributory factors to its lifting of the Airline of the Year award for a third year. Australia’s Qantas Airways took second place and was followed by Etihad Airways, Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines respectively.
UK national carrier British Airways did not make the top 10 of the world’s best airlines, but Virgin Atlantic managed a creditable eighth in collaboration with its associate carrier Virgin Australia. AirlineRatings’s annual awards have 17 different categories. Air New Zealand took the top award in the genre of Best Premium Economy.
Seat bonuses in Air New Zealand include longer and more reclinable seat pitches and the option of turning a row of economy class seats into a SkyCouch. Standard seat pitches on aircraft deployed on domestic New Zealand services in economy class are 30 to 33 inches.
