Airlines improve lost luggage figures

The New Year could be looking up already for some of us as recent information has shown that airlines are handling our baggage with a better success rate. In 2007 an amazing 42 million bags went missing or were delayed for a variety of different reasons, the following year this was reduced to 32.8 million. Officials have yet to be released for 2009, but it is looking like that number has dropped again.

There are a number of factors that are involved in lost luggage from simple problems like the label for the destination has become separated from the bag. There are also apparently a number of human errors where the tag has not been read properly and instead of going Indiana in the US the bag has ended up in India. Overall in the world this year the economic climate has reduced the number of flight, which has in-turn helped airlines with baggage control. The New Year will however see a slow climb in the number of flight and with that, more bags.

There are many things we can do to help reduce the number of bags from being lost on their way to a particular holiday spot. Although not always the cheapest option, direct flights are usually a good bet for a hassle free holiday. If you are making stopovers on your way, make sure that there is enough time left for you to comfortably catch your connecting flight, so that your bag can make the switch with little fuss as well.
