Airport Pollution Controlled
Posted on: March 23rd, 2008 by Frank ToddThe efforts of a talented team of scientists recently bore fruit when they successfully created a computer program that can significantly reduce the level of pollution at the airports all over the world. The researchers at the Nottingham University in United Kingdom believe that their programme is capable of reducing the plane waiting times. This would result in less fuel wastage by a stationary aircraft waiting to take off.
The computer software takes into account the speed and size of the planes and the corresponding distance between different aircrafts. After all the calculations are done, the computer system delivers the most apt and efficient take off schedule. Mr Jason Atkin from the Nottingham University stated that the programme could cut as much as 10 to 25 per cent of the pollution resulting from an aircraft waiting at the holding area.
With many airlines all over the world slowly becoming aware of their social responsibilities, this discovery by the Nottingham University researchers is going to find many takers. The programme was actually designed keeping Heathrow airport in mind. This was because Heathrow airport is considered to be the busiest airport in the world. As per Mr. Atkin, Heathrow airport provided the perfect model for them as it has various restrictions that were absent in other airports.
