Airports in France praised for streamlining security procedures

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has welcomed the adoption of One-Stop Security at French airports.

What the new security arrangements mean is that passengers already screened at an airport in Europe will not be required to pass through a second screening when connecting to another flight.

With France’s decision, the country joins the majority of other EU member nations that already permit One-Stop Security for passengers arriving from an airport in another EU country.

This year, One-Stop Security will apply to individual French airports, beginning with Lyon and then extended to selected terminals at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris.

The IATA has estimated that the move will have an impact on at least six million passengers, and save $30 million annually – without comprising security.

Giovanni Bisignani, the director-general and CEO of the IATA, said: “It is a waste of time, effort and resources to ask passengers to stand again at security if they have already been checked by a competent screening authority a few hours earlier.”

He added: “This frustrates passengers and drains scarce security resources. The business case for One-Stop Security is clear: faster, hassle-free connections for passengers and lower security costs for everyone involved. There is no compromise on quality. I urge other states—particularly the UK and Ireland—to come on board quickly.”
