Avis appoints new vice president
Posted on: May 14th, 2008 by Jean AdamsThe Avis Budget group has appointed Thomas M. Gartland as its new vice president in charge of sales and marketing. Gartland will now play a supervisory role when it comes to the development of the car rental giant’s revenue generation, as well as marketing activities. Gartland, however, is no stranger to the world of sales and, indeed, to the corporate environment; he has been in the field for just under three decades and has taken on several leadership positions in the past. Robert Salerno, Avis Budget’s president, noted that he was pleased with the company’s newest appointment and said that Gartland would prove to be crucial in the coming months and years, as the firm plans to expand its business both on the domestic and international levels. “We’re confident Tom’s experience, knowledge and forward-thinking will help us achieve our goals,” Salerno said in a press release.
Gartland spent years in executive positions at other firms before joining Avis Budget and holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing and administration from the University of St. Thomas.
The Avis Budget group controls two of the largest and more recognized brand names in the car hire industry. The firm is present in more than 70 countries and is the largest general use rental firm in the United States, Australia and New Zealand. With its main offices in New Jersey, Avis Budget employs 30,000 people as part of its international workforce.
