Avis incorporates SMS technology into rental process

Avis is giving mobile and SMS technology an increasingly prominent place in the car hire process, thanks in large part to a new partnership with Cellpoint Mobile. Once the new system is up and running, clients will be able to add mobile internet access to their rental, as well as a GPS navigation device, and will be able to arrange all of this in a quick and convenient manner, without ever having to speak with an Avis agent.

The real innovation to the rental experience, however, comes with a new piece of mobile technology that will allow renters to share their thoughts and experiencing during the car hire with Avis representatives. Renters will simply be asked to send a quick SMS while in the road, in order to convey their feedback and comments.

The introduction of this new mobile technology is meant to streamline the Avis rental process. As part of this trend, Avis seeks to use its partnership with Cellpoint Mobile, in order to allow customers to arrange even complicated rental reservations using mobile technology, as well as make changes to bookings. Both Cellpoint and Avis, however, have also confirmed that they will try to further integrate mobile technology in the rental process and the first new services will be rolled out this coming summer.
