Avis India Receives Top National Tourism Award

Mercury Car Rentals Ltd., also known as Avis India, is a leading premium car rental service in the country, and proved as such by recently taking the second highest honor in the Category I for ‘Tourist Transport Operator’ given away at the National Tourism Awards ceremony. The awards ceremony held for 2008-2009 honors top industry players for excellence in their field.

The awards ceremony took place in New Dehli, and Avis India’s award was presented by Honorable Vice President Shri M. Hamid Ansari. The National Tourism Awards are of the most coveted in India for the travel and tourism sector and are given out annually for various avenues of tourism. The awards are sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism and the Government of India.

The aim of the awards is to encourage a healthy competitive aspect to Indian tourism fields such as transport, accommodation, and dining. The aim of promoting competition is to strive for continued excellence in tourism as well as promote tourism in India, according to the Ministry of Tourism.

Mr Sunil Gupta, the CEO of Avis India, announced that the award was a true honor, and that transportation is a vital aspect for tourists to have a quality experience while touring India. He added that the Avis family was dedicated to promoting higher standards in industry so that it sits at the height of international levels.
