Avis Rent A Car teams up with carbon offset group
Posted on: July 23rd, 2008 by Doug SmithAvis Rent A Car, one of the most prominent international brand names when it comes to car rentals, has teamed up with CarbonFund.org, in order to ensure that the vehicle hire giant does all it can to reduce carbon emissions and the negative impact that the rental industry has on the environment. The significant of this new arrangement is that the Avis Budget group will be able to provide rental clients with far more options than before, when it comes to various carbon offset schemes and programs.
Ronald L. Nelson, Avis Budget’s president, told journalists that his firm has long been concerned about the affects of the car hire industry on the environment and the new agreement with CarbonFund.org will allow both leisurely and business clients to rent a car with a clear conscience, knowing that their contribution to the carbon offset scheme effectively negates any damage that driving does to the natural world. The new partnership means that clients will be able to donate to the offset program, by visiting either the Avis or Budget websites. When a client decides to donate, his/her contribution is forwarded to a range of organizations and projects that work on improving the environment and reducing greenhouse gases.
Eric Carlson, CarbonFund.org’s director ,seems to have a very positive view of what Avis Budget has done so far in terms of its environmental efforts, noting that the car hire giant is “extremely conscious” of the impact that its business has on the environment. Over the years, Avis Budget has tried to ensure that a majority of its rental cars are fuel efficient and it has also purchased electric and hybrid cars. Additionally, fully 63 percent of its vehicles have been certified as being especially fuel efficient.
