Research carried out by Avis has revealed that 30 per cent of clients for business car rentals in the UK are small firms. The car hire company collaborated with the UK’s Guild of Travel Management Companies on the study and classified a small company as one with between one and fifty employees.
The study also found the bulk of the corporate rentals were short term with periods of up to one week the norm. Slightly less than one quarter were for eight days or longer. The duration for UK business travellers renting vehicles overseas tended to be longer with 37 per cent of rentals for eight days or more.
Percentagewise, the most popular pick-up locations for corporate hire cars abroad were Spain with 18 per cent, France with 16 per cent, the US with 14 per cent and Germany with 6 per cent. Avis commissioned the survey to learn more about the habits of car hirers and find out who rented six times a year or more.
The researchers quizzed renters of all age groups and found that almost half were in junior or middle management jobs. The research found that more men than women opted for corporate rentals with a ratio of 57 to 43 per cent.
Commenting on the findings of the survey, Avis UK commercial head Louisa Bell noted that two thirds of the renters said their primary concern was cost and the secondary one was convenience. Other key factors were the ease of making online reservations and the availability of emergency assistance 24 hours a day.
