Avis warns British holidaymakers
Posted on: June 24th, 2008 by Frank ToddAvis Rent-A-Car is trying to give British holidaymakers planning on travelling abroad and driving on foreign roads during the peak summer season a helping hand, by warning them about a few factors that may just ruin their trip, if they do not exercise the necessary caution. Daniel McCarthy pointed out that Britons are involved in “thousands” of motor accidents each year when travelling abroad and that as such, those planning on driving in a foreign country should never try to “scrimp” on travel insurance.
Avis also suggests that all British drivers-whether they rent a vehicle or drive their own-do some preliminary research before heading out, and pay special attention to becoming familiar with maps and also creating realistic calculations about how long distances between destinations may be. This is clearly most important for those who decide to drive without a satellite navigation device, as a precise, well-researched travel plan and itinerary will save the traveller both time and money, since getting lost tends to noticeably increase one’s fuel bill. Additionally, it is always the given traveller’s responsibility to learn about foreign road regulations, in order to make driving in a different country less stressful. Avis, for example, points out that many Britons find it difficult to adjust to driving on the other side of the road when they cross over into Europe and as such, some find themselves in avoidable accidents, had they paid better attention to motor rules.
