BA advises passengers to bring their own teabags for a tasty cuppa

BA HeathrowA spokesperson for UK flag-carrier airline British Airways says passengers who want to be able to taste their tea should supply their own teabags. The representative was responding to a complaint by a passenger who was told he would have to pay double if he wanted an extra teabag for a stronger taste.

Speaking to media sources, the passenger said he was gobsmacked to be told he would have to pay extra for an extra teabag to give his cuppa a bit of oomph. The passenger did not give his name, but confirmed he was from Lancaster and was on a BA short-haul flight to Oslo in Norway.

In its response to the allegation of overcharging for tea, BA explained that all at the airline understood how important tea was to the travelling Briton. The statement carried on by saying, Twinings had concocted special brews for the airline which could be modified to individual tastes and strengths.

Continuing, the statement explained that the bags were sold with cups as a set on short-haul services and passengers who wanted to super-strength their brews had to pay extra. The response finished off by saying BA offered free fill-ups of hot water and passengers who brought their own cups and teabags could brew to taste.

BA’s onboard prices for Twinings peppermint, green, Earl Grey and English breakfast teas are £2.30. Similar Twinings teabags sell at £2.99 for a pack of 50 at UK retailers such as ASDA. BA scrapped free food and drink on its short-haul services last year and claims flyers are more than happy with the new buy-on-board catering options.
