BAA Records Highest Passenger Numbers in Two Years

Last month, due to clear runways and some improvements in UK weather conditions BAA, an airport operator, was able to post their highest ratings for domestic passenger traffic in the last two years.

The percentage of passengers going between UK airports rose by 1.1 percent from the same time last year. A total of 1.35 million additional passengers in February.

Overall the company’s UK airports saw a total of 7.12 million passenger over the month, which was up by 2.4 percent from last year at this time.

Heathrow Airport was up by 5.3 percent in terms of passenger traffic which can mostly be attributed to the snow free runways.

An improvement in weather conditions also proved favourable for Southampton passenger traffic which climbed by 5.9 percent.

However, the operator’s airports at Glasgow, Aberdeen, and Stansted saw a decrease in passenger traffic which is a reflection of the continued fiscal woes of the overall travel industry.

Heathrow remains the most resilient location in the country, said Colin Matthews, chief executive for the firm. He added, however, that even at Heathrow traffic remains depressed due to tough economic conditions.
