Bangkok and Singapore Airlines get top marks in poll
Posted on: July 9th, 2008 by Andy SimpsonBangkok appears to be at the top of the list when it comes to favourite tourist destinations, at least according to the results of a poll published by “Travel + Leisure” magazine. Bangkok came in first place in the “best city” category, while the Galapagos took the prize when participants were asked to identify their favourite island. These results, however, represent an important change from last year, when Florence could boast as the preferred city and Bali, Indonesia, was seen as the best island resort.
Perhaps not surprisingly, Singapore Airlines scooped up the first place prize when poll participants were asked to name the world’s best commercial carrier. Singapore Airlines has built a reputation for offering above-average in-flight service in all cabins and became the first airline to start using the Airbus A-380 “super jumbo” jet.
Magazine subscribers were all asked to participate in this internet-based poll, during the first three months of the year. In addition to publishing the results, Travel + Leisure will now go ahead and host a special awards ceremony on July 24th, in New York City, where all the winners will receive their prizes.
Nancy Novogrod, the magazine’s editor in chief, pointed out that poll participants displayed a clear preference for vacation destinations which offered a combination of breathtaking natural beauty and the possibility of authentic adventures.
