Guests that were staying at The Beverly Hilton during the unexpected death of singer Whitney Houston are demanding they receive a refund for a ruined stay. Many of the guests say that their trip became unbearable due to emergency services, fans and media gathering at the hotel after news revealed the singer was found dead in her fourth floor room’s bathtub.
It’s been reported that the guests were restricted to what they could do or where they could go by police. The guests apparently felt inconvenienced when hotel security asked them for their key cards multiple times as proof they were really staying there, rather than morbid fans trying to get a look at what was happening.
Additionally, they were annoyed by the police, coroner and emergency services for making it impossible for them to enjoy their stay or sleep. However, so far the hotel has refused the guests’ requests for a refund or discount for the stay that they paid for. Instead, the guests were told to file an official complaint on the hotel’s website or at the reception desk.
In a statement, a spokesperson The Beverly Hilton said that the hotel took every precaution to protect the privacy of the singer’s family and hotel guests who might have been affected by the incident. They have fully cooperated with Beverly Hills police, which included securing the whole floor to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone there. They regret any hassle that guests may have experienced during the aftermath of the events.
A funeral for the late “I Will Always Love You” star was held on Saturday, February 18 in her home city of Newark, New Jersey. There was a four-hour home going service held at New Hope Baptist Church, where she first started singing as a child. Some celebrities that attended the service included Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry, Clive Davis, Stevie Wonder and Alicia Keys, while Kevin Costner said a few words. The actor said that he urges everyone, everywhere to dry their tears and hold back their anger long enough to remember what a sweet miracle the singer was.
On Sunday, February 19, Houston was laid to rest next to her father, John Russel Houston Jr, who passed away in 2003 at the age of 48, at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, New Jersey. The burial was only attended by the singer’s family, but fans lined the streets to yell tributes and throw flowers at the gold hearse carrying her body.
The cause of Whitney Houston’s death is still unknown, as officials still have weeks before the toxicology tests are completed. These results will establish what happened in The Beverly Hilton hotel room. The singer had an open and long battle with alcohol and substance abuse, and there’s been speculation that she took a lethal cocktail of alcohol and prescription drugs before she died.
Meanwhile, fans have bought 200,000 of the singer’s records since her death. In Britain, more than 73,000 albums and 127,000 singles have been sold online and in shops. During a nearly 30-year career, Houston sold over 170 million records.
