Beyonce Shows Baby Bump at VMAs

Beyonce's "4" Alubm CoverBeyonce stole the show at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), but it wasn’t because of her great show or from winning a lot of awards. In fact, she didn’t win any awards on Sunday, nor was her performance anything to write home about. However, she did have some exciting news that she’s PREGNANT to share with everyone.

During the pre-show on the black carpet, the singer showed off her baby bump to the crowd of flashing cameras and reporters, announcing that she and Jay-Z, her husband, are expecting their first child. Then after her performance, which was closer to the end of the night, she unbuttoned her purple-sequined jacket and rubbed her belly. The audience of peers and fans went crazy, and MTV cameras flocked to Jay-Z to show the biggest grin. Kanye West was beside him, also grinning from ear-to-ear and patting his friend on the back in congratulations.

This really seemed to steal the show, overshadowing the beloved craziness that is Lady Gaga, the odd outfit being worn by Nicki Minaj and making everyone forget that there were even awards being handed out. Speaking of Gaga, however, she did something that no one expected this year. We are always expecting her to wear something outlandish and revealing, but at this VMAs she went a little conservative. Or should we say, completely changed her look.

Rather than greeting us with her newest outfit, she let Jo Calderone enter the stage. In other words, she turned herself into a greasy male alter-ego in a leather jacket. The pop singer performed ‘You and I’ from her Born This Way album for the opening of the event and was joined by Queen’s Brian May on guitar as she played the piano. As she said during her performance, Lady Gaga ‘is theatre.’ Looks into the crowd by cameras showed some people looking confused at first – not really knowing what to think. Personally, however, the performance was amazing. Guess Gaga can be called a ‘Jack of all trades’ when it comes to art.

Before the show started, Lady Gaga was awarded with Best Video with a Message, and then later she received Best Female Video. She had the second most awards for the night, topped by Katy Perry, who had three for Best Collaboration (with Kany West), Best Special Effects in a Video and Video of the Year. Britney Spears was awarded with a tribute and a Moonman for the Video Vanguard Award.

Also during the event, Perry’s husband Russel Brand was given the task of paying tribute to the late Amy Winehouse. The legendary Tony Bennett showed some footage of the two recording a cover of ‘Body and Soul’ for his upcoming Duets II album. Bruno Mars closed the tribute with a performance of her cover of the Zutons’ ‘Valerie’ in a 1950s look with a pompadour.
