Today US-based semiconductor giant Intel opened its newest plant in the Southeast Asian nation of Vietnam. The announcement four years ago by Intel to locate the plant in Vietnam shocked the Tech world and has since created a tidal wave of high-tech investment in the Communist nation.
Intel CEO and Presient Paul Otellini joined Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai to officially open the new billion dollar assembly plant.
The plant which is as big as five and a half football fields is located in Ho Chi Minh City’s southern industrial park. This is the second plant outside the US for Intel, the first located in Malaysia.
Company CEO, Otellini said that that the Vietnam test and assembly facility will play a key role in the successfully becoming a cornerstone of Intel’s ability to deliver new innovative products to markets around the world in volume.
He proudly proclaimed that the products made in this plant will be used around the world to make world changing technology. He also said that the plant opens up extensive opportunity for economic development in Vietnam.
