Bmi and Aegean Airlines join forces
Posted on: October 19th, 2009 by Martin FellowesBmi, who are a member of the Star Alliance and Greece’s largest carrier, Aegean Airlines, have come together in a commercial co-operation agreement, which will give great benefits to customers of both companies.
From the 25th of October, a code share between the two will see Aegean, who are moving their operation to London’s Heathrow Airport, be able to offer their passengers six connecting flights to Dublin and Belfast as well as, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Glasgow and Manchester airports. Travellers with Bmi will also be able to have up to four connecting flights out of Athens to Rhodes, Heraklion and Chania in Crete and Thessaloniki in the north of Greece.
Aegean is continually looking at ways to improve what they offer to their customers with upgrades to services, and flight shares like that with Bmi. This latest move will only benefit customers of both airlines as they can now book to these locations without having the extra turmoil of checking luggage in twice, which will make the whole process a lot easier. Both carriers have expressed their pleasure with the international hook-up, as it is the way forward to offering customers more freedom of choice.
Lufthansa have just recently completed a buy-out of the shares in Bmi making them the current owner. There have been rumours that the firm is looking to sell-on the airline after they invited other carriers to view the books on the low-cost airline. Possible interested parties have included British Airways and Virgin who are said to be interested in their slots for take-off and landing at Heathrow.
