Boeing exec expects industry recovery in 2010

Boeing’s commercial airline business head commented on Monday at the Paris Air Show that he was hopeful the aviation industry would see recovery in 2010.

Scott Carson said during a press conference at Le Bourget: “There is no certainty. But it does feel to us that there are reasons to hope that the recovery will begin next year.”

This year’s show is lacking the buzz that typically surrounds the event, due to the financial difficulties affecting the industry and the shock of the recent Air France Airbus crash. Aircraft makers are not expecting blockbuster orders at the 100th Paris Air Show.

Carson ended speculation that the test flight for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner would be scheduled to coincide with the Air Show.

“If you expect the fly during the airshow, you will be disappointed,” he said to reporters at the press conference, adding that the test flight was planned for later in the month.

Boeing is battling delays with the fuel-efficient, long-haul 787 similar to those experienced by rival Airbus in the development of its A400M military transporter.
