Britain gets ready for snow and ice

The UK is battening down her hatches as weather forecasters predict a flurry of bad weather fronts with ice, snow, hail, rain and winds are on its way. Freezing temperatures will lead to snow in the east and the north of the country and the south may also see showers of the white stuff come the end of the week. The cold weather will be engulfing the UK for the foreseeable future with changes unlikely for next few weeks.

Jack Frost will visit the whole of the UK over night from Wednesday onwards and temperatures will drop to well below freezing for the majority of the country. Sleet and snow will then descend by Thursday and the whole country is likely to suffer from the extreme weather. Driving conditions will be treacherous and the RAC has warned drivers to take care on the roads during this time. They also warned that you should only take to the roads if it is necessary as the icy roads, limited visibility and consistent rain, snow or sleet will make driving extremely dangerous.

As the month gets colder, bookmakers are frantically cutting the odds for a white Christmas this year. It seems that nowhere in the UK will be able to avoid the cold spell and even those located in the south of the UK in Cornwall will experience the chill. Charities have advised families and councils to check on the elderly to ensure that homes are warm enough and it is likely that many schools and places of work will have to close.
