British Airways refuses celebrity special treatment

British Airways may very well have angered Heather Mills, when it refused to offer a free upgrade from premium economy class to business class on one of its transatlantic flights. The United Kingdom’s flag carrier’s check-in staff in London reportedly told Mills that she would only be upgraded to the Club World cabin is she paid the £1,700 surcharge, just like all other passengers. According to the Mirror, this treatment frustrated Mills and one of the passengers waiting for the same flight could hear her “muttering” about her treatment. The high-profile passengers reportedly argued how British Airways would treat her very differently if she were still married to her celebrity ex-husband. “She seemed to think she would still be entitled to VIP treatment, but it seems the airline had other thoughts,” a passenger told the Mirror.

In the end, Sir Paul McCartney’s ex-wife decided to travel in premium economy instead of having to pay the difference to enjoy the comforts of business class. Mills, of course, is hardly pressed financially, nor does she need to resort to budget travel arrangements. As the Mirror pointed out, the British celebrity received a staggering £24 million as part of her divorce settlement with the Beatles legend.

Mills was apparently travelling from London to New York City with British Airways, in order to attend a charitable event focused on vegetarian and vegan living. The British music legend’s ex-wife said that she plans to give away around $1 million worth to an American charity that promotes vegetarianism.

Thank you to Thomas Smith of The Mirror for the initial report.
