British Airways to Launch New Links

British Airways A321 (BA Press Office)British Airways has unveiled its winter schedule for this year, which will start on October 28. As part of the timetable, regions in the UK are expected to benefit thanks to the purchase of bmi by the airline’s parent company, International Airlines Group (IAG).

The national flag carrier will be adding more frequencies and using larger aircraft on services to Scotland in order to offer nearly 27,000 more seats every week between the country and London. This will include two extra services every day between Edinburgh Airport and London Heathrow Airport, as well as two extra services a day between Aberdeen Airport and Heathrow. On September 24, the airline will also start offering three flights a day between Aberdeen and London City Airport, connecting the two business centres.

Starting December 9, British Airways will be offering four flights a day between Leeds Brandford Airport and Heathrow to connect with its extensive international route network at Heathrow and increase choices for consumers in the north of England. Six flights a week between Venice and London City will be started on September 17, and new daily flights between Zagreb, Croatia and Heathrow will start on December 9.

There will be more choices for flights to Barcelona from London Gatwick with a new three-a-week service set to launch on February 23 next year. From October 28, several of British Airways’ existing routes between Heathrow and Luxembourg, Dusseldorf, Toulouse, Basel and Lyon will be moved from Terminal 5 to Terminal 1. Meanwhile, a route to Isle of Man from London City has been launched recently.

When the European Union gave approval for the bmi takeover, IAG dedicated itself to launch new services to important trading countries. From October 29, British Airways will deliver on that by offering a new service to Las Vegas in the US from London Gatwick Airport, which will be offered three times a week. The carrier launch will six flights a week to Seol, South Korea from December 2 as well.

Former bmi services between Heathrow and Stavanger, Agadir and Bergen will become new British Airways routes starting October 28 at Terminal 5. The carrier has taken over the six daily flights to Belfast, and it will launch a new schedule of seven services per day between the Irish capital and London on October 28. bmi’s old routes to Hanover and Belfast will be launched from Terminal 1. British Airways planes and crew will operate these routes, and passengers will get its full-service on-board experience.

Also during the winter schedule, there will be an increase in frequencies from Heathrow. Services to Aberdeen will rise from six to eight a day; to Edinburgh from ten to 12 a day; to Manchester from ten to 11 a day; to Oslo from four to five a day; to Zurich from six to seven a day; and to Phoenix from six to seven a day. Services to Bologna will be consolidated, with the existing Heathrow increasing in frequency from seven a week to 21 a week.

Starting October 28, British Airways’ services from Gatwick will increase to Faro from four to five a week, to Malaga from seven to ten a week, and to Marrakech from three to seven a week. Additional services to Turin and Salzburg will be added for the ski season, while services to Marseille will be transferred from Gatwick to Heathrow from October 28.

British Airways chief executive Keith Williams says the integration of bmi into British Airways has allowed them to grow their network like they promised. This will give customers more flight destinations they want to fly to. They are focused on new routes – like Leeds Bradford, Zagreb and Seoul – creating more connections for UK regions, and adding services to popular destinations.
