According to local reports, a British tourist has just recently been found dead in Antigua. Apparently, the mother-of-two had been in the area for her father’s wedding. As of right now, local police believe that the woman drowned just hours after she arrived.
The tourist was known as Nicola Raybone. She was from Lythma, Lancashire and only 33 years of age. The woman was last seen by her friends at a bar in her all-inclusive hotel. Soon after, she went down to the beach alone to watch the sunset. This was the last time the woman was seen alive.
After her friends returned from their dinner, they became worried when they could not find Nicola. At this point, they alerted the hotel’s security and the police. After an hour search operation, her body was discovered lying on the beach in wet clothes. At this point, the police in Antigua still say that the cause of death is unknown. However, there was no sign of injury or indication of violence. This has led more officials to believe that she fell into the sea and drowned.
This death occurred just this past Thursday. With her passing, she leaves behind her two children Amy (age 11), and Dylan (age 13). David Barlow, who is the uncle of Nicola, said that she had two kids whom she just adored. She was there with her friend Becky and her kids to celebrate her dad’s wedding. Nicola had only been left at the bar alone for a short time. In fact, her shoes and phone had been left on the bar.
Mr. Barlow went on to explain that Nicola was never a good swimmer. However, none of what happens makes any sense to him. Surely, at around 6pm or 7pm, there would have been people on the beach. Someone must have seen what happened. If anyone has any kind of information, please let the police know. The family realizes that it most likely was just a tragic accident, but everyone wants to know for sure.
Sgt. William Holder, who is a member of the Atntigua Police squad, said she was on the island for a wedding. This ceremony was scheduled to take place the following day. Obviously, the family is very distressed by what has happened. It is a very tragic situation. Her clothing was wet, but it is not yet known whether she had been in the water or not. The girl was found on the shoreline between the surf and where the water breaks.
The Foreign Office has already confirmed the death of a British national. They also went on to state that consular assistance is being offered to the family, who remains on the island.
