Two British tourists were brutally attacked while on holiday in New Zealand, according to media reports. Local police revealed that a 29 year old man was taken into custody for allegedly assaulting two British women in what has been described as a “sex attack.” The women were staying in a campervan near Tokomaru Bay when the incident occurred. The arrested suspect is said to have broken into the van and assaulted the women for up to two hours.
The two British women had reportedly spent the evening at a nearby pub, prior to returning tor their campervan late Friday night. Kevin Ford, representing the Gisborne police department, described the attack as a “horrible ordeal.” Ford did, however, note that the two tourists tried to handle the difficult situation to the best of their abilities. They started off by trying to convince the attacker to leave them alone, and told him about the families that they had waiting back home for them. But these appeals did little to dissuade the attacker from sexually assaulting the visitors. Despite what was surely an awful and truly frightening ordeal, both tourists indicated that they had absolutely no intention of ending their vacation prematurely as a result of this attack.
