Britons are saving themselves a whopping £4.92 billion very year just by booking their holiday in small parts. By cutting out the middle man, who in this case is the travel agent, they can afford to head somewhere a little more exotic.
Last year 25 million adults went on holiday from the UK and almost half of those were savvy enough to avoid the travel agent. Instead they opted to research their own holidays online and keep bookings separate. Flights, hotels, transfers can all be booked online now, and this cold lead to the end of travel agent.
Out of those questioned, during the research by Santander Cards, the average spend for a summer holiday was £1,315, but DIY tourists claimed to have made a saving of around £423 just by booking the trip separately.
The most popular method of saving money proved to be the good old internet where almost everything is available. Other ways that Brits saved money was contacting hotels directly by phone to try and make a saving or get a free upgrade.
