Brussels Airlines encourages online check-in during Easter holiday

As European travelers gear up for a busy travel season, with the Easter long weekend fast approaching, Brussels Airlines is encouraging passengers to check-in online, in order to avoid the lengthy queues and delays that characterize many airports during peak travel times. The airline’s internet-based campaign is quite catchy, with a large image showing four bright yellow Easter chickens lined up in a row, with some of them seemingly experiencing bouts of back pain as they await to check-in at the airport. Belgium’s flag carrier is using its website (www.brusselsairlines.be ) to remind passengers that they can check-in from the comfort of their own home, as far in advance as 24 hours before their flight’s departure. Passengers are also permitted to select their own seat, regardless of whether they have tickets in the “b.flex” (premium service) or “b.light“(regular economy) cabins. Clients are asked to print out their boarding pass at home and present this at the airport when dropping off items of checked luggage, as well as when passing through the security gates.

Brussels Airlines was established in 2006, shortly after the fusion of SN Brussels Airlines and Virgin Express. The carrier is also seen as the unofficial successor of Belgium’s now defunct legacy airline Sabena, which went bankrupt in 2001. Brussels Airlines is a medium-sized carrier, operating a fleet of 48 aircraft and serving a total of 89 destinations, mostly in Europe and Africa. In fact, Belgium’s primary carrier has essentially taken over part of Sabena’s former African network, which ensures that it has a very prominent presence on this continent, with regular flights to destinations in Angola, Burundi, Cameroon, the Ivory Coast, DR Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, Senegal, Uganda and a handful of other states.
