Over past few years there has been a dramatic change over in the aviation business that has left many worn out. The likes of British Airways and Lufthansa, the flagship carriers in Europe, have been hit hard so far in this century as many of us look for cheaper transport options to get us where we are going. Even businesses have had to look away from premium seats on the premier airlines and instead have been making great use of the cheap returns offered by Ryanair and Easyjet among others.
This has led to some of the older boys in the airline industry to ponder the question of whether their first and business seats will come back into popularity. This has had to make them rethink their business style as the passengers in the front of the plane will no longer be their source of profit. Company restructuring has been happening for the past two years in the larger airlines and like with BA it has caused some unrest with the staff. Cabin crew for BA have voted in favour of strike action this week after the airline has lowered the number of stewards on long-haul flights. They have also laid of 2,000 workers and are looking for more voluntary redundancies.
This has had a positive affect on the low-cost carriers who do not have the same trouble as their older rivals. Many passengers have been forced into using them because of their reliability and have found out it is not a whole lot different, but the price is normally cheaper. It is going to be hard slog over the next few years, but one thing for sure, budget airlines will continue to prosper.
