Budget airlines prove more environmentally friendly
Posted on: December 23rd, 2009 by Peter HeadleyNew research out this week by Liligo has shown that the majority of low-cost airlines are actually better for the environment than that off their standard rivals. Liligo is a comparison website that has a carbon footprint tool which you can use to test which is airlines are healthier for the environment. The major reason that your carbon footprint will be reduced on the budget airlines is because of the amount of people that can be on one flight.
The likes of Easyjet, Ryanair and Jet2 do not have business or first class seating so it enables more passengers to board the plane. This in turn cuts down the carbon footprint left by each individual passengers by a lot. On a standard Airbus A320, Easyjet have seating for 180 passengers, while British Airways has only 134 for their travellers. Low-cost carriers also have cheaper airfares that some of the bigger boys which encourages their flights to be more like to be filled up.
You will find that budget airlines around Europe will also carry a lot more people than their rivals as they just travel short-haul routes. Because they are still the new boys on the market a vast majority of their planes are newer, so they can also take advantage of modern developed engines that are better on fuel consumption.
Budget travel is fast becoming the way to get around the EU just by the simple cheapness it can be. Now with the news that they are the most environmentally friendly types of airlines there business is sure to increase some more.
