Car driving across Europe getting cheaper

According to a new survey out, the cost of motoring in Europe is set to come down. Holidaymakers can expect fuel reductions of up to 31 per cent compared to the UK.
Switzerland topped the charts in the unleaded petrol war, coming in at just 91p per litre, but overall the best places were Spain and Austria, albeit unleaded does cost about a penny more that UK prices but a lot less for diesel. Cost of unleaded fuel in these three countries comes to around 34 per cent less than the most expensive country, the Netherlands, showed the Post Office Travel Services survey.
Car rental was another big topic that attracted the attention of the questionnaire, where they compared car hire at 20 locations throughout the world. When the survey was taken Florida came up with a massive 64 per cent increase in car rental cost. This was due to mixture of the pound which fell against the US dollar and the recession where some firms reduced their fleet and increased their prices.
The best value in Europe for car hire turned out to be Greece where they had a huge drop of 36 per cent in the cost of an average car. Sweden came in second place with 32 per cent followed by Portugal with 21 per cent. Portugal however came overall in the top position of value for money for the whole experience, cost of fuel and cost of three days rental.
