Car hire business of police chief wife investigated
Posted on: January 8th, 2009 by Martin FellowesNo legal action will be taken regarding a luxury car hire company operating from the home of the UK’s counter-terrorism police chief, according to officials in charge of the investigation.
Bob Quick, the assistant commissioner, faced questions about the nature of the business his wife Judith was operating from their home.
District Council officials investigated allegations that the company was offering a wedding car service as well as a chauffeur-driven outings service.
If the firm was operating a chauffeur-driven outings service it would require a private hire vehicle and operator’s licence. Additionally, its chauffeurs would also have to be licensed.
The Tandridge District Council’s community services director, Richard Woodward, reported that the firm no longer offers non-wedding car services.
Woodward said: “We have held discussions with the owners, who have given assurances they are currently providing a car service for weddings only. This type of car service does not require local authority licensing and the company has stopped offering any other services.”
He went on to say: “The company is considering what other services it may want to provide in the future, but will discuss these with the council to ensure they comply with all licensing requirements.”
