Car hire facilities set to expand at Palm Springs Airport
Posted on: February 7th, 2008 by Dave AndersonPassengers arriving to California’s Palm Springs Airport in California will soon be able to enjoy improved and expanded car rental facilities, thanks to a decision reached earlier today by the local City Council to approve this project. According to current plans, the expansion will increase the size of the international airport’s car hire facilities by nearly 200 percent. The initial cost of the expansion is set at $1.6 million and a contract to build the new facility has already been signed and approved by municipal authorities.
The new car hire facility will allow passengers to enjoy an expedited rental process, by permitting them to collect their hired vehicle literally steps away from the airport’s baggage reclaim area. Most industry observers believe that this will make Palm Springs International unique among American airports, as only a small handful currently offer this level of convenience to renters. David H. Ready, Palm Spring’s City Manager, noted that good car hire services are key to a well functioning airport and that the current expansion will benefit not only car hire firms, but also individual renters, who will undoubtedly find the rental process much more efficient and less time consuming.
The airport’s current facilities make room for 149 rental vehicles, but this number is now expected to be increased by an additional 122 slots. An additional 87 spaces will also be added to the return parking lot, used by the major car hire firms.
Several large, international rental firms have counters at the Palm Springs Airport, including Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz and National.
