Car hire is getting short over Christmas
Posted on: December 10th, 2009 by Robert BergersonIf you are looking for car hire over the Christmas and New Year period in the capital you should start to act fast. Latest news by Sixt, one of the leading UK car rental suppliers, has suggested that we could well se a shortage like that on the continent in the summer.
Many top holiday resorts from places like Alicante, Faro, Cannes and Rome experienced an overwhelming demand for cars during the busy month of August and just did not have enough cars to cope. Holidaymakers were left stranded having to use expensive cabs as they tried their luck by looking for a rental car when they arrived at their resort.
Those that managed to get a car for their break at the last minute were often stung for an unusually high amount of in some cases three times the normal price. The lack of vehicles was partly due to operators not purchasing new vehicles as they predicted a small demand for much of the year and they needed to keep costs at a minimum.
The fleet sizes are around the same as they have been all year and Sixt are warning their customers that with the normal increase of business that is made from expatriates returning home and people visiting friends and family will have potentially more strain as many of us are choosing to use hire cars instead of adding miles to our own.
Sixt also has some great giveaways until the 23rd December where you could win flights, hotels rooms and free upgrades by logging on to their website.
