The most popular destinations in North East England for shopping and nightlife take several hours to reach from Norwich by train or car, but the managing director of Norwich airport is seeking to help travellers cut down the journey time by introducing new flights from the regional airport.
Earlier this month, consumer travel publication Which? Holiday rated Norwich International Airport as one of the best airports in the UK, with it outperforming rival Stansted.
Elliott Summers, the Norwich airport managing director, has confirmed from recent meetings with Flybe that the airline maintains it commitment to Norwich.
He said: “Although Flybe has removed its based aircraft this was purely a financial consolidation decision. Due to the current financial climate it has no plans to expand at Norwich in the short-term but by the same token does not intend to withdraw any existing services either.”
In other comments, the managing director defended the airport’s car parking charges, which he insists compare favourably with those at both Stansted and Luton.
Summers explained: “Contrary to local common perception Norwich Airport short stay car parking is much cheaper than both Luton and Stansted. At Luton they charge £1 to simply drop-off, £3 for up to 15 minutes, £6 for up to 45 minutes and so on using a sliding scale up to £30 a day.”
