Car rental firms at Montgomery Airport resist move
Posted on: May 14th, 2008 by Garry RobertsonCar rental companies have resisted attempts on the part of Montgomery Airport’s operators to relocate them to parking spaces located at a significant distance from the actual terminal. All rental firms at the airport decided to join together in protest, and this finally convinced Montgomery’s operator to refer the issue back to a committee, before continuing with the original plans. Tammy Fleming, who serves as the committee’s chairperson, was the one who decided to return the proposal for consideration, as the effected car hire companies had put up some stiff resistance to these plans.
Fleming chaired a tense meeting earlier this week, where six car rental companies were present in order to protest their forced relocation. Fleming promised that the committee would “re-evaluate” the current plan. A final decision, however, is not likely to come before May 22nd, which is when the committee will hold its next meeting. Until this time, car hire companies operating out of this regional airport will be permitted to remain at their current locations. The committee will still consider moving the firms to a parking lot, which is located beyond the airport’s loop road, and which currently serves as airport personnel parking.
