Car rental operator Enterprise adds hybrids to fleet
Posted on: December 26th, 2008 by Samantha WilliamsEnterprise Rent-A-Car has designated four locations in the Houston area to be its new “hybrid branches,” sending them larger numbers of hybrid vehicles to rent.
The Houston agencies and another four in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, are to be part of the first group of 22 locations nationally that will receive the bulk of Enterprise’s new hybrid purchases. Eighty locations in all, including Denver, New York and major cities on the West Coast will be involved by the end of January 2009.
“Throughout our history, we’ve matched our fleet with the demand of the renting public,” said the vice president and general manager for Enterprise in Houston, Brett Nann.
Enterprise has revealed that it will also be adding as many as 5,000 gas/electric hybrids to its world-wide fleet, increasing the total number internationally to approximately 7,000. This would mean the Enterprise fleet having the largest number of hybrids of any U.S. rental car company.
The fleet of 125 hybrids in the Houston area will double by the end of January, depending on quickly the vehicles are delivered.
“We tried to pick locations that we thought would have the most demand for those vehicles,” Nann added, in reference to the Houston airport, downtown and Galleria locations chosen.
