Car rental seen as ideal for Spanish vacation
Posted on: May 9th, 2008 by Kate PooleRenting a car is seen as the ideal form of transportation for those looking to travel to La Manga, Spain, but travel experts warn that renters must be sure to know the rules associated with car hires ahead of time. Local, independently operated firms often provide the best deals in Spanish towns and coastal resorts, including in La Manga. Yet one must always keep in mind that they may also apply rules that are unusual and not commonly seen when it comes to larger, international firms. For example, in La Manga, and through much of Spain, it is customary that the driver be at least 18 years or older when hiring a car. This is noticeably different from most major rental firms, which tend to place the minimum age from between 21 to 25 years. In many cases, anyone under 25 years of age must pay a surcharge in order to rent a vehicle. This, however, is not the case in La Manga, and in other parts of Spain, thus allowing for young university students and even some senior high school students to enjoy a rental car during their vacation. All drivers, however, must be able to produce a valid driver’s license, with a photograph.
It is also important to keep in mind that all Spanish car hire firms require that renters buy third party insurance before they hire their car. Although this may not be necessary in other European countries, all firms operating in Spain-including larger international ones, must by law compel their clients to do so. Also, when driving, renters are well advised to keep Spain’s highway code in mind, which requires drivers to keep their lights on when passing through a tunnel and they may also drive as fast as 120km per hour on major roadways.
