If you are thinking of heading to Cardiff in the next few days, think again. From 8th July through to 12th July around 95 per cent of the hotels in the Welsh capital are full to capacity.
The cricket guys of Australia are descending on the British shores for the great Ashes cricket tests. The first test is to be played in Cardiff at the Swalec stadium and then off to other sites around England including, Lord’s in London and Edgbaston in Birmingham.
Dermot Keegan from the Hoteliers Association says that figures are up by around 20 per cent compared to the norm for this time of year. He also said that most hotels have been charges premium prices for rooms because the demand is so high.
“There are some rooms still available, but most of the hotels are full or nearly full. It’s also the start of the graduation season, but the increase we’re seeing is down to the Ashes,” said Keegan
Hoteliers from all over the city have really been smiling since it was announced that the first test was going to be played in Cardiff. Some have even likened it to a Six Nations rugby match, with the amount of interest that has been generated and people coming to the area.
