Checked luggage fees at Ryanair increase by 50 per cent

Ryanair, renowned for being a budget airline with extra charges have just introduced their latest increased charge. It seems that the company has been trying to deter passengers from checking bags onto their planes for a long time now. They have upped the hand luggage limit and in some cases even shut airports check-in desks in favour of bag drops.

From October the low-cost carrier will charge £30 for each piece of luggage that needs to be checked into the hold. It was rumoured earlier this year that the airline was going to make passengers carry the bag all the way to the plane themselves before handing it to a baggage handler at the bottom of the steps, that move seems to have been scrapped, at least for now.

Ryanair have been attacked recently in the press about their hidden charges and had to answer at an investigation into the matter where they promised they would make all charges clearer for the public. It is estimated that 70 per cent of Ryanair’s customers will not be affected by these changes in checked baggage as they already fly with just hand luggage. Ryanair are also not the only airline to alter their rules, BA just last month shut up the free sports equipment travel, those bags now come under the checked allowance.
