China looks set to welcome its own Disneyland
Posted on: November 5th, 2009 by Samantha WilliamsAfter a decade of talks and discussions, Disneyland will finally be making its move to China as the Chinese Government has given the go-ahead on the new theme park. Mickey Mouse, along with girlfriend Minnie and famous friends like Pluto will be upping sticks and moving to Shanghai for the opening of the first Disney theme park in China. It will become the fourth park to open outside of the US with others already running successfully in Paris, Hong Kong and Tokyo.
Hong Kong is the most recently opened park after it was unleashed to the public in 2005, but the government insists that the new addition in Shanghai will not affect their business. The first project that will be tackled is the Magic Kingdom, but the rest of the details have yet to be decided upon. Shanghai is China’s biggest city and the announcement for the new park comes after US president Barack Obama spoke about how he planned to visit the city.
Disney’s president and CEO Robert Iger spoke about how China is one of the most exciting countries in the whole world and that the new theme park will signify a huge milestone to the Walt Disney firm. Disney is set to finalise talks with the Shanghai government before final details are released to the public. The venue is likely to cost around £2.17bn for the four-square-mile project but no one has yet speculated about the completion dates of the new theme park that will be based on Shanghai themes.
