Conde Nast Traveler pans Qantas and Sydney Airport
Posted on: October 6th, 2008 by Martin FellowesA prestigious US travel magazine has announced that both Sydney Airport and Qantas received low marks in their annual readers’ poll.
The annual survey conducted by Conde Nast Traveler of business air passengers was published in the October edition of the magazine, and showed that the busiest airport in Australia was given a rating of 48.2 out of a possible 100, Fairfax newspapers reported.
By contrast, Singapore’s Changi Airport was rated the best airport in the world, with a rating of 79.8.
Categories in which Sydney Airport scored the lowest were baggage, customs, food, shops and various amenities.
A spokesman for Sydney Airport commented that it really wasn’t fair to rate the airport before the current $500 million upgrade, which commenced in February, was complete.
Qantas, which has been criticized for its maintenance and safety records in the past months, ranked number seven in a list of 10 carriers offering business-class service on routes across the Pacific.
Singapore beat out Australia again, with its national carrier finishing in first place in all categories.
A spokeswoman for Qantas said: “The Conde Nast annual survey has approximately 2,500 participants.”
“Earlier this year, Qantas ranked No.3 in the world by 15 million travellers in the annual Skytrax World Airline Awards and was also named best airline in Australasia,” she added.
