The airline will be installing the new seat in its BusinessFirst cabin on its Boeing 757, 777 and 787 aircraft as part of a service they describing as having “the extra space and fine amenities of traditional international first class at a business class price”.
The first access passengers will have to the new business class seats will be on the Boeing 777s that Continental uses on its transatlantic and trans-pacific services, beginning in the fall of 2009.
Continental’s chief executive officer, Larry Kellner, said: “Continental continues to invest in its product to make flying more comfortable for our global customers. We created a brand-new seat designed to lie completely flat, without compromising functionality or effective use of cabin space.”
Design work on the ‘lie-flat’ seat stated in the fall of 2006, when the airline began to plan its new business class environment for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
