Couple found dead in swimming pool at Down Hall Country House Hotel

Down Hall Country House HotelHow safe are holidays really? For one couple, a recent holiday turned out to be their last. Two people were found dead in a swimming pool over the weekend. For now the death is being labelled as unexplained. Police don’t currently believe that foul play was involved, but it is still too early to rule anything out.

The two bodies were found in the swimming pool at the Down Hall Country House Hotel. For those who don’t know, this is a luxury hotel in Essex that is traditionally popular with newlyweds. The man was said to be in his 30s and the woman was only in her 20s.

It was 7:35 p.m. when the bodies were first found. The hotel staff did their best to try and resuscitate the pair while they waited for the ambulances to arrive. After the ambulance crew go there, the young couple was pronounced dead.

At this point, police are still not releasing a lot of information about the two victims. However, the holidaying couple is thought to be from London. The police also confirmed that these two were at the hotel together at the time of their deaths.

The manager of the hotel, Chris Falcus, said that they were simply devastated to learn about this tragic incident. Everyone at the hotel sends their thoughts to the families and friends who have been affected. When the alarm was first sounded, two of their staff members dived into the pool after the couple. The staff on hand did everything they could to save their lives. The hotel is, and will remain, helpful to the police during their investigation.

Although officers have ruled this death as unexplained, they are not done investigating it just yet. In fact, local police have already enlisted the help of the Essex and Kent Serious Crime Directorate to help investigate the crime scene. They won’t know what caused the death of these two people until the post-mortem examination is done. However, a number of the investigating officers have their own theory on how this tragic event unfolded. One officer believes that the two swimmers were overcome by fumes. Just how this would have been possible was not explained.

The hotel, which is actually a mansion, is surrounded by 110 acres of woodlands. In fact, this is the same area where Jade Goody, from Big Brother, had her wedding back in 2009. Although the hotel was popular before this wedding took place, Goody’s wedding did nothing but add to the fame of the hotel itself. Due to the hotel’s location, it offers a good getaway retreat for people who are looking to get away from it all.

Although this event happened within the UK, travel companies are reminding tourists to be careful. Whether people are taking a holiday in or outside the UK, people need to use good judgement. They have also been stressing the importance of travel insurance. Although this is something that a number of travellers overlook, consumer groups believe that it is one of the most important things that can be purchased before leaving on a holiday. This goes double if the holiday is going to take place overseas.
