Cruises offer recession savings
Posted on: February 25th, 2009 by Peter HeadleyRoyal Caribbean Cruises will be launching the Oasis of the Seas, its largest ship ever, in the fall. The 5,400-passenger mega-ship, along with offering new amenities to its passengers, is also available at bargain rates.
A seven-night Caribbean cruise in a cabin with a balcony is being featured by Royal Caribbean for under $1,000 per person. The price, which includes three daily meals, brings the cost in line with budget hotel chain rates in the U.S. – without the meals.
For a number of years, cruises have been an affordable luxury, but this year’s deals have not been seen before. For around $50 per day – a five-fold reduction, Norwegian Cruise Line is offering a four-day trip to the Bahamas from Miami. Holland America is featuring a seven-day Alaska cruise for $499 – normally costing over $2,000 per person – and Carnival’s price for the cruise is $399. Upscale Celebrity Cruises is offering a seven-day European cruise for $699.
