Droves of fans turned up at the Manchester Airport last Tuesday, March 9 to form a huge welcoming committee for David Beckham. The footballer, who now lives in the US with wife Victoria Beckham and their three boys, was returning to his homeland for a Champions League match.
The League match was played on Wednesday and is between long-time rivals AC Milan and Manchester United. Beckham will get an interesting reaction from the crowd as he is in town to play midfield for AC Milan against Manchester.
After his plane touched down at the airport, Beckham emerged to a large crowd of enthusiastic football fans hoping to catch a glimpse of the international superstar. Photographers and reporters were on-hand as well, despite the fact that the British national is returning to play for Manchester’s Italian rivals.
Beckham commented on the upcoming match, saying that arriving back in Manchester to play for AC Milan is exciting. He added that the match will be tough, but he had faith in his teammates. In the end, United took the match 3-2 for the first round.
Manchester Airport has seen several interesting developments this week, with Monarch airlines announcing a new route from Santorini, a popular Greek island vacation spot, and the northern travel hub. Flight services to the island will start May 5. A similar route is also being implemented at Gatwick.
