After Eurostar left passengers stranded the weekend before Christmas in what was thought to be because of the extreme weather, it seems that the Eurotunnel service is now having problems. The Eurotunnel is the car transport service where you drive on to the train for your quick jaunt under the English Channel. Technical problems are thought to be the cause of up to 400 cars being affected by the suspension of services last night.
Passengers that were hoping to get away for a short break were offered alternatives by Eurotunnel in the way of ferries to get into France. Engineers were on site to try and fix the small problem advised bosses at Eurotunnel. There was chaos around the area as the queue extended from the depot at Folkestone back to the M20 motorway. Those that did not have a reservation were turned away while other waited up to four hours.
A spokesman for Eurotunnel said that the delays were lasting up to two hours and anyone who was delayed more than an hour was being offered alternatives via a ferry service. There was no apparent fault on the French side of the tunnel and Eurostar reported services were running as normal for them.
This is the second major problem in less than two weeks for the Channel Tunnel after a backlog of passengers had to be cleared before Christmas Day. Although there were many delays on the Eurostar, it would appear that the problem was solved, albeit three days later.
