Discounted first-class train tickets in Canada

VIA Rail, Canada’s national passenger railway, is offering travelers interested in experiencing the comfort of VIA One, the train’s premium cabin, special promotional rates. For example, a ticket from Montreal to Quebec City now costs $99 in first class, while tickets from Ottawa to Montreal stand at only $79 and Toronto to Ottawa is priced in the $149 range. Clients can also travel from Toronto to London for the low $79 rate and enjoy the perks that first-class has to offer.

The contrast between Via One and Comfort (economy) class is fairly stark. First class passengers are invited to use the railway’s exclusive Panorama lounges at major train stations, where they are offered newspapers, complimentary beverages and priority boarding. Once on the train, passengers enjoy more space and larger seats, as well as pay-per-use wireless internet access. Clients are also served a hot meal on all routes, as well as a selection of wines and beverages.

Comfort (economy) class tickets tend to be noticeably cheaper, although the current Via One promotional makes these premium seats a bargain. Economy passengers are not offered a hot meal, but they may purchase snacks, light meals and beverages at relatively reasonable prices. Comfort class tickets are also available at competitive rates. The Montreal to Quebec City route now costs $42, those travelling from Toronto to Kingston now pay $55 and the price aboard the Toronto to London line stands at only $33.

It is worth keeping in mind that VIA also offers students with ISIC cards discounted fares in economy class.
