Dollar Thrifty’s buying strategy
Posted on: May 1st, 2007 by Martin FellowesThe Dollar Thrifty Automotive group has upped it’s strategic purchases by acquiring more franchises. Franchise operations in Seattle, Portland, Washington and Ore have been bought out.
This means that 2500 vehicles have now been added to the company’s ever growing fleet. Dollar Thrifty have targeted airport and urban rental companies. The purchase also includes parking facilities at both Portland International and Seattle-Tacoma International Airports. The areas natural attraction of both leisure and business travellers means this is certainly a wise purchase. Especially considering Portland International attracted 14m passengers in the last year. Dollar Thrifty are also proud to acquire the symbolic location of the Space Needle where one of the Thrifty Car Rental firms is based.
This is the first franchise purchase for Dollar Thrifty in 2007 following an array of acquisitions last year. More than 6000 vehicles were added to their fleet in 2006 covering 16 cities.
Dollar Thrifty are certainly becoming a considerable contender in the car rental market. They now have over 800 franchises and corporates locations in the US and Canada. With nearly 9k employees based primarily in North America their expansion is certainly worth keeping an eye on.
