Dollar Thrifty car rental takes you that extra mile
Posted on: December 28th, 2009 by Peter HeadleyIt has been a year of saving for the vast majority of the world as we have had our purse strings snapped back by the worldwide recession. Travel was a big loser in 2009 as many of us opted for shorter breaks, domestic holidays instead of foreign and to try and save on fuel by not travelling as far. The car rental company, Dollar Thrifty, have got some good news for 2010. They have said just last week that we should be able to travel farther in their rental cars, as the new fleet that they have been buying are up to 10 per cent more fuel efficient.
The purchases that they have made for the coming year include around 40 per cent of vehicles that have a rating of more than 30 miles per gallon. Compare this against their 2009 acquisitions where only 10 per cent came into this bracket. This saving is expected to mean around $35 million in less fuel purchases as 13.5 fewer gallons of fuel will be purchased. The company has said that they have diversified their fleet this year by adding some of the greener vehicles to their ever growing list of cars.
As this is happening over in the US, the UK are looking at other ways that can save the travelling public money. Many firms are offering great deals for the month of January including half price rental booked before the end of January, free deliveries on two days of rental or more.
